Class Types and Descriptions -

Beginner Reformer - A class dedicated to ensuring those who are brand spanking new to Pilates, and specifically the reformer, can learn the equipment, the lingo, and standard engagements and intentions. No matter your fitness level or awareness level, this class is for you to come and learn. It is meant to prepare you for all other reformer class types on the schedule but can also simply be a slower-paced and lower-intensity option depending on your day and/or your intentions for practicing. As with all reformer classes, be prepared to get up and down from the reformer which is 13” off the ground, and come either barefoot or with grippy socks.

Intermediate Reformer - A class that moves at a swift pace because the expectation is all students are familiar with the equipment. While there is no assumed knowledge and all exercises will be explained and monitored, this is for those who have been on a reformer before and are comfortable with a range of movement and effort from low-intensity to high. The intermediate classes will mildly introduce some of the more complex exercises to offer challenge in an exploratory and supportive environment.

Advanced Reformer - This class is meant for those who are comfortable on a reformer and who have a solid foundation of practice. This class will be faster-paced and include plenty of level 4/5 exercises, which means not only strength and control but also balance and willingness to try new things are required. Sometimes this class will take on more of a workshop vibe to solidify new and challenging movements.

Reformer Strength - A class that utilizes familiar Pilates exercises with dumbbells, bands, and heavy spring loading on the reformer to work muscles to their max and build strength alongside endurance. This will be challenging and you will likely work to failure - a standard of strength training. Due to the fast pace and heavy loading, experience on the reformer is a requirement - please ask if you are not sure.

Mellow Reformer - A class that moves slower than what is typically offered at the studio. The same exercises at a more restorative pace and at lighter spring tension with additional stretch-focused exercises and shapes tossed in. This is great for someone newer to Pilates or for anyone who’s looking to take it a little slower for any reason. Expect breath work and gentle mindfulness alongside movement.

Mat Pilates - Here at Laramie Pilates we follow the classical sequence as laid out by Joe but will sometimes throw a few other things in to supplement the work. Mat Pilates is done on the floor so if you need support getting down or back up please let your instructor know. This tends to be a higher intensity workout centered on abdominal strength, joint mobility, and stability. The exercises are unique and can be a little funky - come see for yourself!

Lunchtime Flow (yoga asana) - A movement practice paced with breath work. This yoga flow will be beginner to intermediate in nature, meant to be a midday opening as a break from the intensity of work or life or anything you may be experiencing. If you are new to yoga, this is a good place to start.

Movement and Meditation (yoga asana and subtle body work) - A 90-minute practice committed to a deep internal gaze. This flow is intended for those already familiar with yoga asana. It is intermediate to advanced in nature with plenty of time for breath work and meditation after movement. Regardless of whether or not you can do a handstand, if you are comfortable being with yourself in stillness and silence this practice is for you.

Belly Dance (level one) - A course designed to introduce the foundation of belly dance techniques. It is a fun, low-impact, sensual workout that based on getting in touch with feminine principles. In this class, you will develop the tools to strengthen your presentation including muscle isolations, memory and strength building, posture and flexibility. You will also learn all the basic movements of belly dance such as arm positions, hip work, foot work, basic combos, shimmies and more! All levels are welcome. Please wear comfortable clothing as we also do floor-based exercises. Bring a yoga mat (if you have one) and a water bottle. The dance portion is done barefoot, though socks or ballet shoes are also fine.
